València Becomes Europe’s Design Capital with a Strong Opening to ‘València Inspires Design 2026’

The joint event bringing together Feria Hábitat València, Textilhogar, Espacio Cocina SICI and 360 by Cevisama has attracted a large turnout of industry professionals on its opening day, with nearly 1,200 exhibiting brands across 110,000 square metres of exhibition space, 32% more than at the last joint edition.

The National Innovation and Design Awards Gathering has brought together leading figures in Spanish design, including Jaime Hayón, Javier Mariscal, Alberto Lievore, Inma Bermúdez, Mario Ruiz and Héctor Serrano.

València, 28 September 2026. – València has today become one of southern Europe’s major hubs for design, interiors and innovation with the opening of València Inspires Design, the event bringing together Feria Hábitat València, Textilhogar, Espacio Cocina SICI and 360 by Cevisama at Feria Valencia until next Thursday, 1 October. The first day has seen a strong turnout of industry professionals and marked the start of an edition featuring 595 exhibiting companies and nearly 1,200 represented brands, 32% more than at the last joint edition, across 110,000 square metres of exhibition space spread over ten halls.

With these figures, València Inspira Diseño consolidates its position as the leading trade fair event for design in southern Europe during the second half of the year, with an offering spanning furniture, decoration and textiles, as well as kitchens, bathrooms, materials, technology and solutions for the home and living environment.

A positive outlook for the furniture, kitchen, bathroom and textile industries

The opening of València Inspira Diseño has also taken place against a positive backdrop for many of the sectors represented. The Spanish furniture sector closed 2025 with production growth of 3.4%, reaching €4.779 billion, according to a study by AIDIMME.

In the kitchen sector, provisional figures from the Kitchen Furniture Association (AMC) point to revenue growth of 4.9% during the first half of 2026, bringing turnover to approximately €1 billion.

Meanwhile, the Spanish bathroom equipment sector recorded turnover of €3.824 billion in 2024, with 224 companies and approximately 11,800 jobs. In 2025, its exports reached €920.968 million, with Europe remaining its main overseas market, accounting for 83.6% of international sales.

The textile and clothing sector in the Valencian Community has also reported positive performance. Its exports reached €1.074 billion in 2025, up 5% on the previous year, according to data compiled by ATEVAL and CITYC. This growth highlights the importance of the Valencian textile industry and its ability to expand internationally, as Textilhogar strengthens its presence within València Inspira Diseño.

Leading names in Spanish design take centre stage on the opening day

One of the main highlights of the first day has been the National Innovation and Design Awards Gathering, held at the Ágora nude venue at Feria Hábitat València under the theme ‘Design and Innovation: From Recognition to Transformation’.

The event featured Teresa Riesgo Alcaide, Secretary General for Innovation at the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities, and brought together some of the most influential figures in contemporary Spanish design.

Across four roundtable discussions, participants explored topics including design as a business strategy, industrial innovation, collaboration between designers and industry, and the next generation of Spanish design. Among the leading names featured at the gathering were Jaime Hayón, Javier Mariscal, Alberto Lievore, Inma Bermúdez, Mario Ruiz and Héctor Serrano, prominent representatives of different generations and disciplines within Spanish design.

Design, architecture, hospitality and kitchens: a cross-sector programme

The opening day’s programme has also included a range of events focused on architecture, interior design and innovation. These have included ‘60 anys FENT’, marking the 60th anniversary of the Higher Technical School of Architecture at the Universitat Politècnica de València, as well as the exhibition ‘Serial Structures, Singular Objects’, exploring the relationship between modular design and craftsmanship.

The programme has also addressed topics such as the application of neuroscience to architecture, with the session ‘Neurohacks for Architecture’, led by Juan Carlos Baumgartner, and a series of hospitality and contract-sector discussions at the Foro Hotel Hábitat. These have included sessions on new ways of designing hotel spaces, technology applied to construction and the Hotel Hábitat 2026 project by Joaquín Homs. A particular highlight has been Hosbec’s session on hotel rooftop case studies, showcasing a new type of hospitality offering built around design and guest experience.

Meanwhile, the Foro AMC Kitchen Lab has focused on the role of new communication channels, featuring a live discussion between Dani Colino and Miguel Gómez, two of the leading influencers specialising in kitchens. They shared their perspectives on the evolution of the kitchen space and the relationship between industry professionals, brands and content creators.

The presence of influencers and content creators specialising in design, interior design and home living has also played a prominent role on the opening day. Feria Hábitat València and Textilhogar ambassadors Macarena Gea, Sol Van Dorsen and Patricia Herrero have brought the latest innovations, trends and offerings from participating brands to their respective communities.

Following its opening day, València Inspires Design will continue until next Thursday, 1 October, with four days of professional activity and an extensive programme of presentations, exhibitions, meetings and events focused on design, interiors and innovation. The event brings together Feria Hábitat València, Textilhogar, Espacio Cocina SICI and 360 by Cevisama at Feria Valencia, creating a joint platform for industry and professionals across the various sectors of the home and living environment.
