Twenty years after presenting the Ensombra prototype at nude, Odosdesign returns to Feria Hábitat València with a suite that pays tribute to the piece. Through light, materials and textures, the space evokes a distinctly Mediterranean way of life: in the shade and close to the sea.
Some designs mark the beginning of a story. For Odosdesign, Ensombra is one of them. The studio presented the prototype of this parasol at nude twenty years ago. That first design might have remained an idea, but GandiaBlasco added it to its collection. That support was decisive in shaping Odosdesign and setting the studio on its path. Two decades later, Ensombra remains in production and has become one of the brand’s icons. It can be found in hotels around the world and has featured in exhibitions at leading museums, including MoMA.
Ensombra now takes centre stage in the suite Odosdesign has created for Hotel Hábitat, the project designed by Joaquín Homs for Feria Hábitat València. Returning with it means coming back to where it all began. It also shows how far the design has travelled since then: the piece first presented as a prototype is now part of a collection that continues to grow. In the suite, the parasol appears alongside its pouf, inviting visitors to settle into its shade and enjoy it in a new way.
That journey is also present in the room through images of fifteen spaces around the world where Ensombra can be found. Together, they show how an idea born at nude has become part of very different landscapes and projects, while retaining the gesture that made it recognisable from the start.
A suite that lets you feel the Mediterranean
Terraces and outdoor spaces are often where some of the most memorable moments of a hotel stay take place. The design brings that outdoor way of life into the suite, evoking a Mediterranean terrace through filtered light, the movement of the sea and the pleasure of pausing in the shade. Here, Ensombra finds its natural setting. Rather than simply depicting a landscape, the suite invites visitors to feel it.
The parasol begins with a simple, elegant gesture: opening a fan. Its slats unfold to create shade that can be adjusted throughout the day. That movement, so familiar across the Mediterranean, is at the heart of the design and runs through the atmosphere of the room.
Kriskadecor’s chains evoke the sea through their reflections and movement. Underfoot, Naturtex flooring brings warmth and texture. Together, these elements create a setting that invites visitors to slow down and linger a little longer beneath Ensombra.
Twenty years after its debut, the parasol returns to Feria Hábitat València. The suite celebrates the journey from that first prototype, bringing together Ensombra’s origins and the life the design has taken on over time.
